Synthetic Fibers (Polyester, Acrylic, Nylon/Polyamide, Spandex /Lycra)
- Polyester (Dacron)
Advantages: Stable performance, wrinkle – resistant, high heat resistance, good elasticity, durable.
Disadvantages: Poor moisture absorption and air permeability, prone to static electricity, easy to attract dust.
- Acrylic
Advantages: Fluffy, soft, warm (known as “artificial wool”), good elasticity.
Disadvantages: Prone to static electricity, easy to pill, poor wear resistance.
- Nylon (Polyamide)
Advantages: Sturdy and durable, good drape, lightweight, wrinkle – resistant, fast moisture wicking.
Disadvantages: Prone to static electricity, poor moisture absorption, poor sun resistance.
- Spandex (Lycra)
Advantages: Excellent elasticity, high strength, wrinkle – free.
Disadvantages: Poor moisture absorption and heat resistance, generally not used alone.
Regenerated Cellulose Fibers (Viscose Fiber, Lyocell /Tencel, Modal, Acetate Fiber,Cupro)
- Viscose Fiber
Advantages: Strong moisture absorption, non – static, good air permeability, soft.
Disadvantages: Poor elasticity, not washable (in water), poor dimensional stability, easy to wrinkle.
- Lyocell (Tencel)
Advantages: Environmentally friendly, moisture – absorbing and breathable, lightweight with luster.
Disadvantages: Poor dimensional stability, prone to deformation, not stiff.
- Modal
Advantages: Strong moisture absorption, breathable, soft (improved version of viscose).
Disadvantages: Poor dimensional stability, prone to deformation, not stiff.
- Acetate Fiber
Advantages: Bright color, smooth and comfortable, lustrous, moisture – absorbing and breathable.
Disadvantages: Easy to break, avoid strong stretching, expensive.
- Cupro
Advantages: Strong moisture absorption, anti – static, breathable, soft and delicate.
Disadvantages: Expensive, easy to shrink and wrinkle, easy to snag.
